Banish moss with ‘easy’ homemade solution that ‘kills it in 24 hours’

Moss, a type of non-vascular plant that produces spores instead of seeds, lacks common plant features such as leaves, branches and roots. For those reluctant to use herbicides or keen on DIY alternatives, there exists a “moss-killing solution” that one can whip up with ease at their residence.

The professionals imparted: “You can mix baking soda with lukewarm water to create an effective DIY herbicide that will work great to kill moss.” Simply blend a small box of baking soda with two gallons of water for this approach, reports the Express.

This concoction is sufficient to treat roughly 1000 square feet of moss-infested lawn, and should you be dealing with more expansive areas, just scale up the mixture while preserving the proportions.

Utilise a garden sprayer to apply a generous coating of the solution to the moss. Gardening experts advise saturating the moss “for the best results”.

There’s no need to fret about the grass, as this concoction won’t harm the surrounding turf. The professionals assert that this treatment “kills the moss in 24 hours”. At this stage, the moss will have transformed into an orange or brown hue.

Once the moss is deceased, it should be straightforward to eliminate with a metal rake. Moss roots are incredibly shallow, so a rake should suffice in removing the entire plant.

After gathering the moss, dispose of it in sealed bags away from your lawn, as spores can still disperse, carried by the wind and reseed your lawn with additional moss.
